Kristas Blog

1st Week Of Sweeney's Class

I am a student at Richard Bland College and I am taking English 101 along with four other classes. My instructors name is Mr. Sweeney. Every morning we play a game on the computer called Sporkle. It is almost like a trivia game but you can choose the category and it is actually really fun. It wakes me up since he is my first class and it is in the morning. Mr. Sweeney is a goofy and funny person and tries to make difficult things fun and easy. He wants us to write blogs every week on what we think about readings and classes. I hope this blog thing will be easy. We have already read two stories which were not all that entertaining to read. We had to read them on the computer and they were sideways which made them hard to read. We read "The Question of Originality" and "Writing and the Threshold Life." I, personally, liked "The Question of Originality" story better than the "Writing and the Threshold Life." "The Question of Originality" talked about originality and asked if it still existed. After reading the story it makes you think if being original can still happen. I, personally, do not think anyone can be original anymore. Someone somewhere has already done, wore, thought of, or wanted something before you did. Even if someone has done something over one-hundred years ago it still will not make you original because it has already been done or thought of. A long time ago originality did exist because many people thought of, invented, and did many things people do today. For example, a long time ago people were scared to sail in the ocean because they were afraid of sea creatures and falling off the earth if they sailed too far. One day, someone was brave enough to sail on the ocean and discover that you did not fall off the earth and sea creatures would not take your boat under and kill you. He was being original by wanting to sail where no one has ever wanted to before and did. Today, we sail all over the world without fear because of a man who was original and brave enough to do it. But now since we know we are not original sailing on the sea because someone has already done it. Wearing clothes are also not original because someone has already worn what you would think would be original. The threshold story was very boring so I'm not even going to write about that one.
